三、教学过程

Step 1. Lead-in

The teacher shares his/her weekend plan and students have a free talk about their weekend plans with simple future tense.

Step 2. Presentation

1. The teacher shows some pictures of different activities and asks students to describe them with the present continuous tense. The teacher will present the sentences. Students observe the two groups of sentences and tell the differences in tense and meanings.

2. Students read the conversation in the book and underline verbs in the present continuous tense and discuss with a partner the rules in common.

3. Students generalize the function and the teacher concludes and explains the rules.

Step 3. Practice

1. Students will read the sentences in exercise 3 and tick those that express future plans and then rewrite them in the present continuous tense.

2. The teacher gives some pictures of different activities selected from movies. Students will describe their pictures with the present continuous tense to their partners.

Step 4. Consolidation

The teacher shows the weather report of this weekend. Students work in groups of four to make their own weekend plans and interview their group members about their plans. The results will be shared in the class 5 minutes later. And the teacher will make comments.

Step 5. Summary

Students summarize what they have learnt according to the blackboard and the teacher makes a supplement that the present continuous tense can sometimes express the future and stresses the rules again. Meanwhile the teacher will point out that the future will soon become the present so as to arouse students’ awareness of cherishing time. And the teacher will encourage students to apply what they have learnt into practice when sharing their plans.

Step 6. Homework

1. Students search for information about other tenses or expressions describing the future and try to find out their differences.

2. Students make new conversations with partners to discuss their plans in a month.
